Here's a link to a sample website, built with New Google Sites.

I have a Google Site which was built the "old" way.  This "new" set of tools looks like it has a lot of potential. I am thinking about whether I want to build another website. I had a paid subscription to WikiSpaces and they shutdown the company. I also had some pages hosted on RootsWeb freepages. I seem to have lots access when they shutdown RootsWeb for security issues.

If anyone reading this has used New Google Sites to create a genealogy website I would appreciate hearing from you and getting the URL to you site.

Automatically Delete a File or Folder from Box

I have a Box account. I sometimes use it to share genealogy reports with others. One way to limit access to a report is to set a time limit for file viewing or downloading.

This can be accomplished is to set a date for the file to be automatically deleted when the file is uploaded to Box.

Reviewing what little I can remember about creating a website using Google Sites. I have had a Site for several years. I haven't done any updates recently.

I'm starting to think about what I am going to do to replace my paid WikiSpaces site because they have announced that they are going to shutdown.

I also have a paid account on Box where I can upload and share files. Box works well with PDF files. I wonder if I can use the Google Sites to link to PDFs on Box. If so, I might be able to store the larger files on Box and thusly avoid hitting the storage limit on a Site account.

I'm not happy!

Macrium Reflect Tutorials

I am worried that my laptop is going to overheat and fail. So far, I don't think the hard drive is going bad. I bought a 1TB external hard drive this week. I'm planning to install the "free" version of Macrium Reflect. I'll use it to create a mirror image of the hard drive on the external hard drive.

But, first I need to get up to speed on how Macrium Reflect works.  There are some ten to twelve minute videos on YouTube.  I watched a couple of them and thought they were good.  However, for me, I seem to be more comfortable if I have a written tutorial that I can study and perhaps display on the 2nd screen as I go through the steps.

At the BSCC computer club there have been several short talks about Macrium Reflect and there are a couple of PowerPoint presentations available on the club website.

Apparently you can use your Android smartphone and the "free" Google Keep App to capture and image, say of a newspaper article and quickly convert it to a "text" file. This could be very useful for genealogy. Use the phone to capture the image of a newspaper clipping obituary and convert it to a text file.

I have not mastered this technique as of the time I posted this link.

This is the Google site for the chapter.  On the Google site you can find a list and descriptions of publications that are available for purchase via mail or online via PayPal. On the homepage there is a link to the chapter's page on Facebook.

As of Jan 2018, the chapter's "free" website, hosted on RootsWeb by Ancestry, is down because of a security issue on RootsWeb. At this time, 28 Jan 2018, there is no projected date for the resolution of the problem.

I have been interested in this program for many years. I have a free copy of the program on my old desktop computer. I seldom start that computer. I'm thinking again about buying the program. It costs $29.95. There is a "free" 30-day trial.

I'm using a copy of Windows Sticky Notes that I like. However, I now have too many notes, the screen is full.  I have a hunch that WhizFolders is a much better way to take notes and quickly find and retrieve them.
