James Quinn: A Circuit Rider's Journal: Video
West Ohio Conference of The United Methodist Church
Reverend James Quinn was an early Ohio circuit rider. He grew up in Western Pennsylvania, a son of John Quinn and Sarah Henthorn. After his death his journal was published and the proceeds went to support of his widow and children. There is a copy of the journal in the collections of The Library of Congress, that yours truly viewed more than twenty years ago.

Information about the family of James Quinn is included in the "pafsma" file of researcher, Richard E. Henthorn.

Letters Written to Rev. Daniel Hitt include some by Rev. James Quinn and several Henthorn ladies. I make these documents available on this webpage.

This is a link to the digital newspaper archive at The Library of Congress.

The Spirit of Democracy was published once a week at Woodsfield, Monroe Co., OH. I think publication ran from 1844-1994. However, it looks like only the issues from 1844-1886 are available at The Library of Congress.

Noted Monroe county genealogy researcher, Catharine (Foreaker) Fedorchak, wrote a weekly genealogy column that appeared in this newspaper. Many volumes of her work, have been published by the Monroe County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society, and are still available from the society.
